Project Description
24 March 2011 - In June 2010 violent clashes between ethnic Kyrgyz and Uzbeks broke out in the cities of Osh and Jalalabad and several rural districts of southern Kyrgyzstan. About 75 000 people from the conflict area fled into neighbouring Uzbekistan and approximately 300 000 others were internally displaced. Most of the displaced people have returned to their home areas; however tensions remain high and the conflict-affected population continues to require humanitarian assistance to meet its basic needs. CIDA's contribution is helping the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) provide humanitarian assistance including protection services medical care clean water and sanitation and essential relief items to 100 000 people affected by the civil conflict in Kyrgyzstan.
