January 17th 2011 - In 2008 and 2009 armed conflict in the Central Mindanao region of the Philippines led to the displacement of 700 000 persons and the death of approximately 500 people (soldiers and civilians). This conflict also led to the devastation of productive assets livelihoods houses and schools for a large portion of the population. As a result this region is now facing an acute food crisis.
