Project Description
16 March 2011 - Pakistan is facing a number of complex challenges. As a result relief recovery and rehabilitation needs are enormous. While Pakistan produces enough food to feed its population access remains a major issue. It is estimated that 82.6 million people are food-insecure of which 45 million are extremely food-insecure. Moreover the impact of food price hikes witnessed in 2008 continues to reverberate throughout Pakistan risking further entrenchment of food insecurity for a large part of the population. CIDA’s contribution is helping the World Food Programme (WFP) to meet the household food security needs of over 9 million vulnerable people in Pakistan between January 2011 and December 2012. Activities include food-for-assets cash-for-work food-for-training on-site feeding and take home rations for both girls and boys attending primary schools.
