Project Description

The overall goal of this project is to support Helen Keller International (HKI) to deliver essential health services through Child Health Days to support countries to transition towards institutionalized Child Health Days programs for infants 6-11 months and children 12-59 months in Africa. Through this initiative HKI aims to accelerate efforts through global programming to both close gaps in coverage and strengthen national health systems to improve overall delivery coverage and quality of evidence-based high impact interventions to reduce child mortality and morbidity.

Progress & Results Achieved

Results achieved as of the end of this project include: reaching over 80 million children under the age of five with vitamin A therefore saving an estimated lives in 12 sub-Saharan African countries. It is also estimated Canada's funds helped to train over 26 000 health workers in the 12 African countries.
