Project Description

November 8 2010 - Benin is currently experiencing a nutritional and food security crisis arising from unseasonably heavy rains in September that have caused massive flooding. The flooding has left hundreds of thousands of people homeless and has caused massive destruction. With CIDA support the World Food Programme (WFP) aims to provide immediate food assistance to the affected population and to help reinforce food security and nutrition among children under five. It is expected that WFP will assist a total of 450 000 beneficiaries (385 000 vulnerable people including 70 000 children under five and 65 000 people who are members of host families assisting displaced people in their households).
