Project Description
08 November 2010 - Two disasters struck Indonesia on 25 October: the eruption of Mount Merapi and the tsunami that hit the Mentawai Islands. These two disasters have resulted in over 600 deaths and have affected over 150 000 people. This project is divided into two humanitarian operations in the two affected areas both implemented by Palang Merah Indonesia (the Indonesian Red Cross). With CIDA support Palang Merah Indonesia aims to undertake the following activities: the distribution of water essential non-food relief items emergency shelter materials and the provision of basic health care services to the population. The response to the volcanic eruption also includes the running of field kitchens in evacuation centres.
