Project Description
December 9 2010 - The Emergency Disaster Assistance Fund (EDAF) is a draw-down fund administered by the Canadian Red Cross Society that allows for an immediate Canadian response to IFRC emergency appeals or DREF operations increasing the effectiveness and timeliness of assistance to disaster affected people. The EDAF supports IFRC emergency operations when the following criteria are met: i) the government of the affected country requests or welcomes international assistance; ii) the emergency is a result of a sudden onset natural disaster; iii) the Federation has issued an emergency appeal less than 3 million dollars or a DREF operation less than 1 million dollars; iv) the affected country is at or below the category of a lower middle income country/territory according to the Development Assistance Committee (DAC) list of eligible Official Development Assistance (ODA) recipients; v) the number of beneficiaries targeted is a minimum of 1 000 families (5 000 people).
