International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance - Institutional Support

This grant represents Canada’s institutional support to the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA). International IDEA uses these funds along with other donor funding to achieve its mandate. International IDEA’s mandate is to support sustainable democratic change. International IDEA provides comparative knowledge assists in democratic reform and influences policies and politics in the areas of electoral assistance effective party assistance constitution building and democracy and development. Canada’s support to International IDEA contributes to finding durable solutions to democratic challenges and promotes sustainable democratic change.

International IDEA’s expected results include: equal participation and representation of women and men in constitutional electoral parliamentary and political party processes; improved capacities of national and regional actors in building sustainable democracy focusing on the citizen as a driver of change; improved assessment and management of conflict and security risks around elections; and better quality democracy evidenced by increased trust in democratic institutions and processes in countries of assessment.
