Project Description
This grant represents CIDA's institutional support to the Conference of Education Ministers of Countries Using French as a Common Language (CONFEMEN). CONFEMEN uses these funds along with other donor funding to achieve its mandate. The mandate of CONFEMEN is to improve: (1) education policies; (2) the management of education systems; and (3) the lives of young people in member countries of the South particularly in Africa. Canada's support to CONFEMEN helps to improve the integration of national education systems in the process of economic and social development of member countries of the South.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of 2011 include: (1) CONFEMEN contributed to several sub-regional and international discussions on development education teacher training quality of education the academic background of pupils and how well the education-related Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) have been achieved in La Francophonie; (2) technical secretariat staff members improved their performance by means of access to information and communications technologies (ICT); (3) a methodological guide to evaluate the educational systems was developed and is now available online; and (4) CONFEMEN evaluated the education systems of eight African and Asian countries (Mali Niger Mauritania Cameroon Guinea-Bissau Cambodia Laos and Vietnam).
