Project Description
This grant represents CIDA's institutional support to the Agence universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF). AUF uses these funds along with other donor funding to achieve its mandate. AUF's mandate is to support cooperation and solidarity among academic institutions working in French especially in French-speaking countries in Africa the Arab world South East Asia Central and Eastern Europe and the Caribbean. Canada's support to AUF helps to develop higher education and research and train teachers and school managers in these countries.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of 2011 include: 4 951 individual training and research scholarships were awarded to students and researchers from La Francophonie; 1 248 learners were able to participate in 78 open and distance learning (ODL) sessions; 99 inter-university scientific cooperation projects were supported bringing together 375 associated institutions; the network of 44 Francophone virtual campuses as well as 16 Francophone virtual campuses partnering with AUF gave students professors and researchers access to more than 2 340 computers; more than 29 200 people were trained in information and communications technologies (ICT) through the network of Francophone virtual campuses; more than 27 000 articles and theses as well as 15 joint publications by AUF are now available to Francophone students professors and researchers online.
