Project Description
Armed conflict between Pakistani government forces and armed opposition groups has escalated across Pakistan's Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and North West Frontier Province (NWFP) since August 2008. Approximately 3 million people were displaced due to violence of whom about 1.7 million have since returned to their home areas. Conflict and displacement continue in many parts of Pakistan and both the returnees and the internally displaced people (IDPs) require humanitarian assistance to meet their basic needs. CIDA's contribution is supporting CARE Canada to provide basic health services to returnees in upper Swat District NWFP Pakistan. This includes mobile health clinics to meet the immediate health needs of isolated returnees provision of primary health care through clinics promotion of hygiene practices to reduce the risk of an outbreak of diseases and training traditional birth attendants in safe childbirth.
