Project Description
Armed conflict between Pakistani government forces and armed opposition groups has escalated across Pakistan's Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and North West Frontier Province (NWFP) since August 2008. Approximately 3 million people were displaced due to violence of whom about 1.7 million have since returned to their home areas. Conflict and displacement continue in many parts of Pakistan and both the returnees and the internally displaced people (IDPs) require humanitarian assistance to meet their basic needs. CIDA's contribution is supporting Save the Children to improve the health and reduce the vulnerability of approximately 150 920 returnees in North West Frontier Province (NWFP) Pakistan. The project focuses on the provision of basic health care services and health education through five basic health units located in Buner District NWFP. In addition Save the Children is establishing safe and protective learning spaces for girls who have returned to their home communities.
