Project Description
Armed conflict between Pakistani government forces and armed opposition groups has escalated across Pakistan's Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and North West Frontier Province (NWFP) since August 2008. Approximately 3 000 000 people were displaced due to the conflict of whom about 1.7 million have since returned to their home areas. Conflict and displacement continue in many parts of Pakistan and both the returnees and the internally displaced people (IDPs) require humanitarian assistance to meet their basic needs. CIDA's contribution is supporting the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) to ensure the improved coordination of humanitarian response to displacements and natural disasters in Pakistan. This includes the provision of timely and essential interagency coordination as well as humanitarian mapping and information-sharing among all humanitarian partners to ensure efficient and appropriate aid to the conflict-affected population in Pakistan.
