Project Description
Armed conflict between Pakistani government forces and armed opposition groups has escalated across Pakistan's Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and North West Frontier Province (NWFP) since August 2008. Approximately 3 million people were displaced due to violence of whom about 1.7 million have since returned to their home areas. Conflict and displacement continue in many parts of Pakistan and both the returnees and the internally displaced people (IDPs) require humanitarian assistance to meet their basic needs. CIDA's contribution is supporting the World Food Programme's (WFP) emergency operation to save lives and avert hunger of the returnees and IDPs and to prevent malnutrition among infants young children and pregnant and nursing mothers affected by the conflict. Beneficiaries are reached through general food distribution and supplementary food distributions to children and other highly vulnerable groups.
