Project Description
There are over 40 000 refugees and over 1.4 million displaced persons residing in Iraq. Many of the displaced live in dire conditions requiring protection and basic humanitarian assistance for their survival. In addition those seeking to return to their places of origin encounter many challenges including insecurity limited livelihood opportunities and difficulties accessing even the most basic social services. CIDA’s contribution is used to support the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) to provide protection and assistance to refugees and displaced persons (IDPs) in Iraq. UNHCR’s activities focus on providing vulnerable refugees and IDPs with basic assistance such as food safe water and health services. UNHCR is also working with authorities legal professionals and local communities towards finding durable solutions for those displaced particularly to ensure their safe voluntary dignified and sustainable return resettlement or re-integration.
