Project Description
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial neutral and independent organization that draws its mandate from the 1949 Geneva Conventions and their Additional Protocols of 1977. ICRC’s primary mission is to help to protect the lives and dignity of victims of war and internal violence. The ICRC seeks to provide these victims with assistance and prevent further suffering by promoting and strengthening International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and universal humanitarian principles. This grant aims to help ICRC meet the emergency needs of vulnerable populations in the following areas: emergency assistance protection preventive action and cooperation with National Societies. Expected results include: increased operational capacities of the Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies; protected and/or restored living conditions for people affected by armed conflict or situations of violence; mainstreamed or improved health or physical security of vulnerable populations; and enhanced preparedness and response to situations of violence or armed conflict.
