Project Description
November 24 2009 - The combined effects of Hurricane Ida and a low-pressure system off the Pacific Coast led to heavy rainfall in El Salvador causing severe flooding and landslides in 7 of the country’s 14 departments. As of November 16 2009 192 people have been reported dead 80 people missing and around 15 000 people are currently being supported in 140 collective centres. In total approximately 15 000 families (75 000 people) are in need of humanitarian assistance. CIDA's contribution is used to help the Pan American Health Organization provide and ensure access to life-saving primary and secondary health care services to 75 000 people affected by the floods and landslides including the detection and prevention of the occurrence of out-breaks of communicable diseases.
