Project Description
October 9 2009 - Typhoon Ketsana hit the central part of Vietnam on September 29 with wind gusts of up to 160 km/h. It was the strongest typhoon to hit Vietnam since 1999. As of October 9 the human toll of Ketsana in Vietnam was 170 dead 14 missing and up to 3 million people affected of whom more than 150 000 have been left homeless. This operation by the Vietnam Red Cross Society supported by the IFRC focuses on the provision of non-food items potable drinking water water collection containers household water treatment and water purification tablets to 10 000 evacuated and returning families and the provision of shelter to 1 000 families left homeless by the typhoon and subsequent floods.
