Project Description

October 9 2009 - Typhoon Ketsana hit the central part of Vietnam on September 29 with wind gusts of up to 160 km/h. It was the strongest typhoon to hit Vietnam since 1999. As of October 9 the human toll of Ketsana in Vietnam was 170 dead 14 missing and up to 3 million people affected of whom more than 150 000 have been left homeless. This project is part of Oxfam’s larger emergency operation in Vietnam. Its aim is to reduce the impact of Typhoon Ketsana and the subsequent flooding and landslides in Kon Tom Province one of the worst disaster-affected areas of Vietnam through the provision of water filter and supply systems and containers to 4 000 families and non-food items to 3 000 women.
