Project Description
Pakistan has witnessed one of the largest fastest displacements the world has seen in the last 15 years and certainly the largest in Pakistan's history. At the height of the conflict the United Nations estimated that more than 2 million people were displaced from their homes. Although the internally displaced population housed in temporary camps has begun to return home conflict and displacement continue in multiple districts. Approximately 80% of the displaced remain with host families whose social and economic resources have been overwhelmed by the severity of needs and the duration of the conflict. CIDA's contribution is used to help CARE Canada provide basic health services to returning and resident households. This includes mobile health clinics to meet the immediate health needs of the displaced population and promotion of hygiene practices to reduce the risk of an outbreak of waterborne diseases.
