Project Description

CIDA's contribution is helping the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to support the implementation of a comprehensive response to situations of displacement in the region. UNHCR activities include: providing international protection for some 250 000 Colombians in refugee-like situations who have not formally sought asylum; promoting the legal integration of long-staying refugees; seeking to ensure that safeguards for refugee protection are respected in migration policies and practices; keeping asylum and migration issues on the agenda; and assisting governments as they gradually assume all functions related to refugee protection including registration refugee status determination and public policy formulation.
