Project Description
More than four decades of internal violence has resulted in Colombia dealing with one of the largest displaced populations in the world with more than three million Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). The ongoing conflict in the country continues to affect the civilian population who face human rights abuses abductions poor access to safe water and sanitation facilities and increasing humanitarian needs in the areas of health and nutrition. This CIDA contribution is used to support the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in helping to protect and assist victims of armed conflict in Colombia. Activities include protecting victims of sexual violence; promoting international humanitarian law within the armed forces' doctrine; providing emergency aid such as household items and food for 70 000 internally displaced persons and 4 000 conflict-affected residents; as well as repairing water supplies sanitation systems and health infrastructures.
