Project Description
More than four decades of internal violence has resulted in Colombia dealing with one of the largest displaced populations in the world with more than three million Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). The ongoing conflict in the country continues to affect the civilian population who face human rights abuses abductions poor access to safe water and sanitation facilities and increasing humanitarian needs in the areas of health and nutrition. CIDA's contribution is used to support Action Against Hunger to help improve the health status of vulnerable persons in conflict-affected regions of Southern Colombia. Activities focus on improving access to safe water and sanitation facilities; improving hygiene practices; distributing water tanks water filters and hygiene kits; and rehabilitating latrines and sanitation systems to reduce morbidity and mortality related to water and waste-borne diseases. The project is expected to reach an estimated 12 000 beneficiaries.
