Project Description

The Post Nargis Joint Assessment (PONJA) which was jointly conducted by the national authorities the United Nations and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) was established to assess the most seriously affected Cyclone Nargis hit areas and identify vulnerabilities and capacities in a joint credible and comprehensive manner. Merlin is holding a 3-day workshop in Bangkok to review and build on the lessons learned from the PONJA and to establish a Common Need Assessment (CNA) tool which could be used for rapid assessments in other sudden onset disasters. The planned workshop is to take place from January 21-23 2009 and includes representatives from 25 participating UN agencies non-governmental organizations and donors.
