Project Description
The project aims to reduce the number of deaths among children under the age of five by delivering life saving treatments for malaria and pneumonia in hard to reach communities. Project activities focus on training and supervising community health workers to effectively recognize the symptoms of malaria and pneumonia as well as diagnose and treat these childhood diseases. In addition the project is procuring treatments to ensure community health workers in hard to reach communities have ready access to the necessary drugs to address malaria and pneumonia. This project is being implemented in Mozambique Malawi and South Sudan.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of the end of the project (April 2013) include: training 2 798 community health workers in Malawi Mozambique and South Sudan to deliver 1.44 million malaria treatments and 638 299 pneumonia treatments. These results have contributed to reducing the number of children under five years of age dying of preventable childhood illnesses in South Sudan Malawi and Mozambique.
