Project Description
A powerful tropical storm drenched Yemen with heavy rains in late October resulting in severe flooding. Between 20 000 and 25 000 people were displaced and up to 650 000 people were affected in some way primarily in terms of the damage done to local agriculture. The UN launched an appeal seeking US$11.5 million (approximately CAD$14.2 million) to provide relief aid to affected populations. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) aims to improve conditions for populations affected by the flooding by providing them with emergency relief items including tents plastic sheets shelter kits mattresses blankets and other essential items.
