Project Description
A powerful tropical storm drenched Yemen with heavy rains in late October resulting in severe flooding. Between 20 000 and 25 000 people were displaced and up to 650 000 people were affected in some way primarily in terms of the damage done to local agriculture. The UN launched an appeal seeking US$11.5 million (approximately CAD$14.2 million) to provide relief aid to affected populations. UNICEF supports vulnerable communities through increasing their daily water share to meet basic needs preventing or mitigating sanitation challenges that affect public health and enhancing coordination within the sector to fill critical gaps prevent duplication and provide a timely response.
