Project Description
Despite various peace agreements signed over the past few years Sudan continues to face several humanitarian crises due to conflict. In South Sudan need remains high as nearly 3 million people continue to return to a land bereft of even the most basic infrastructure and must now rely on the humanitarian system for food water medical care and shelter. With CIDA support World Relief Canada is providing water and sanitation and health support to displaced and returnee populations in the Aweil East Highlands of South Sudan. Core activities include: supporting improved access to potable water by drilling 10 boreholes distributing 3000 household water filters and water harvesting; promoting good health practices by training health promotion staff and volunteers providing health education messages and training women's groups to make soap; supporting water committees by establishing them and training members; and supporting latrine construction by contracting 36 public latrines and 500 household latrines.
