Project Description
Since October 2007 Southern Africa has experienced early and unusually heavy rains which have damaged homes and crops of an estimated 449 000 people in the region. In Mozambique approximately 32 000 families who remained in resettlement centers following the flooding in 2001 and 2007 have lost their entire expected harvests. CIDA's contribution is used to help the World Food Programme (WFP) address the emergency food aid needs of flood-affected populations in Mozambique and to help reduce rates of malnutrition and disease particularly among the most vulnerable groups such as female-headed households. This operation is expected to reach an estimated 258 000 beneficiaries.
