Project Description

The primary beneficiaries of this project are the civilian population of south Lebanon whose safety security and well-being are at risk and those delivering assistance to south Lebanon (humanitarian agencies non-governmental organizations and regional donors). This project contributes to the wider peace process in the region through clearance of previously unauthorized areas adjacent to the Blue Line This immediately mitigates the impact of these minefields on the civilian population thereby allowing access to arable land and revitalizing agricultural and subsequent long-term development activities for the affected communities. The medium term outcomes of this project are expected to be: Access to grazing areas and cultivation of arable areas; Improved safe access to identified areas for local communities; Improved socio-economic outlook for the population; Overall confidence building; catalyst for Government of Lebanon approval of additional minefields for clearance.
