Water shortages affect health hygiene education and livelihood activities. Water sanitation and hygiene conditions are a challenge throughout the country but particularly so in southern Zimbabwe. CARE is seeking to improve access to safe drinking water for 15 000 persons in the Chivi Mwenezi and Mbrengwa districts through the rehabilitation or replacement of 600 hand pumps in rural communities. In addition CARE supports the formation of community-based Water Management Committees in these areas and build community awareness on water handling hygiene practices and water.
