Project Description
The International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC) is CIDA's key partner in sudden onset natural disaster response. This is mainly due to their network of National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in virtually every country and their specific mandate to act as an auxiliary to government in times of disaster. The IFRC recognizes that extreme weather-related disasters are increasing in frequency affecting over a third of the world's population and that effective disaster management and coordination remains one of the core areas of priority action. The goal of the project is to reduce the impact of disasters on people by increasing their capacity to address vulnerability while promoting respect for human dignity. The project supports the IFRC to continue strengthening its international disaster management tools and mechanisms to reinforce and increase the use of its regional resources and to continue to effectively coordinate disaster response.
