Project Description

The Ecohealth Emerging Infectious Diseases (Eco EID) Initiative is designed to contribute to enhancing preparedness and systemic response capacities to threats from emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases and diseases with pandemic potential in Southeast Asia and beyond. Eco EID is a capacity-building initiative that supports innovative approaches to integrating research research capacity building and evidence-based policy and practice. This global initiative is funded by CIDA through the Global Health Research Initiative. The project is co-funded by the International Development Research Centre and the Australian Agency for International Development.

Progress & Results Achieved

Results achieved as of May 2013 include: awarding grants to research teams based in Southeast Asia and China to undertake research projects in emerging infectious diseases. Project researchers have also prepared a number of articles some of which were published in international journals. Ecohealth Emerging Infectious Diseases researchers attended and presented their work at two prominent international ecohealth conferences in Kunming China and Bangkok Thailand.
