Project Description
This project aims to contribute to the efforts of the Global Financing Facility in support of Every Woman Every Child (GFF) to end preventable maternal newborn and child deaths and to improve the health and quality of life of women adolescents and children. The project will support the GFF to develop strengthen and scale-up effective integrated and sustainable CRVS systems in eligible countries. Project activities include: (1) Promoting comprehensive effective and integrated CRVS systems for improving reproductive maternal newborn child and adolescent health; (2) Facilitating inclusion of quality CRVS components in GFF Investment Cases by working with countries to identify needs establish priorities and provide access to resources; (3) Establishing and maintaining a roster of CRVS technical experts; (4) Strengthening the capacity of in-country CRVS implementers for sustainability; (5) Building and facilitating exchange of knowledge and best practices; (6) Contributing to global tools and standards for CRVS systems and promoting their use; and (7) Contributing to improved accountability in GFF countries.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) Increased use of the Centre of Excellence as a facilitator of technical assistance knowledge standards and guidance on civil registration and vital statistics; and (2) Increased use of evidence global tools and standards in planning and implementing civil registration and vital statistics systems in countries supported by the Global Financing Facility.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of the end of the project (July 2021) include: (1) produced more than 320 guides tools and documents on civil registration and vital statistics and made them publically available through the Centre of Excellence; (2) launched a directory of 85 civil registration and vital statistics experts to provide country governments with a network of vetted expertise; (3) successfully promoted gender equality as a key issue to consider within civil registration and vital statistics; (4) published profiles of civil registration and vital statistics systems in 47 countries and made them available online; and (5) improved the capacity to implement civil registration and vital statistics systems in 20 countries.
