Project Description
This grant represents Canada’s institutional support to the World Economic Forum (WEF). The WEF uses these funds along with other donors’ funding to achieve its mandate. WEF's Global Challenge on Food Security and Agriculture (Global Challenge) and its regional platform Grow Asia are facilitating multi-stakeholder partnerships and mobilizing investments that contribute to food security nutrition and agricultural growth. The Global Challenge is a global platform for leaders and stakeholders to collaborate promote high-level engagement and support strategic actions in the agriculture sector. Activities under the Global Challenge include: (1) launching the Global Agenda Trustees on Food Security and Agriculture; (2) promoting innovation and best practices through the Global Platform for Transformative Partnerships in Agriculture; and (3) expanding multi-stakeholder partnerships at the regional and country levels. Grow Asia supports regional efforts to engage the private sector and identify opportunities for collaboration to help 10 million smallholder farmers in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region increase farm productivity profitability and environmental sustainability by 20% by 2020. Activities under Grow Asia include: (1) establishing a Grow Asia Secretariat; (2) convening stakeholders and brokering four country-level platforms in Vietnam Indonesia Burma and the Philippines; (3) supporting innovation within each of the four country-level platforms; and (4) reporting and sharing progress of each of the four country-level platforms.
Expected Results
The expected intermediate outcomes for this project include: (1) advanced global leadership and engagement on food security and agriculture; (2) established new and/or strengthened existing public-private partnerships in supporting agricultural productivity profitability and environmental sustainability in ASEAN countries; and (3) identified innovation and best practices for sustainable business models and partnership approaches.
