Project Description
March 2015 - As a result of military operations floods and droughts the overall number of IDPs in Pakistan increased in 2014 from under 1 million in January to 1.38 million by November 2014. In addition Pakistan is hosting 1.6 million Afghan refugees. Malnutrition is an ongoing concern and the UN estimates that 1.78 million children under the age of five and 1.08 million pregnant and lactating women are severely malnourished and are in need of urgent assistance. Priority humanitarian needs include basic food and services for the displaced population and protection for conflict-affected populations. With the support of DFATD World Vision Canada is (1) establishing mobile and static health clinics and training staff; (2) providing nutritional assistance to malnourished children; (3) building the capacity of healthcare providers to respond to cases of sexual and gender-based violence; and (4) providing psychosocial support and mental health services for victims of violence having experienced various forms of trauma. The project is targeting the most vulnerable displaced persons in North Waziristan Pakistan.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) improved access to primary healthcare services; (2) improved community-based nutrition practices and infant and young child feeding practices; (3) improved response to sexual and gender-based violence; and (4) improved access to counselling and psycho-social support services for trauma and conflict-affected women girls men and boys. The expected ultimate outcome is lives saved suffering alleviated and human dignity maintained in countries experiencing humanitarian crises or acute food insecurity.
