Project Description
This project aims to enhance development outcomes and innovative poverty reduction initiatives. The project is a policy research partnership between the Center for Global Development (CGD) and DFATD that is aligned with DFATD's interests as well as provides a channel to engage globally on cutting-edge policy issues. Project activities include: (1) consulting and exchanging with DFATD to deliver research on agreed upon issues (game changing technologies and data innovative financing migration and diaspora); (2) hosting meetings and public events; (3) supporting the commitment to Development Index (CDI).
Expected Results
The expected results from the proposed initiative are: (1) increased use of evidence based development policy elaboration by DFATD; and (2) improved evidence based program and project design by DFATD.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of the end of the project (December 2017) include: (1) the Center for Global Development (CGD) exceeded the project target of one paper and one to two consultations annually with 14 papers and consultations with 20 Canadian officials; (2) CGD published four articles on migration and diasporas surpassing the projected target of three articles; (3) CGD engaged with GAC through meetings and videoconferences with five visits to Ottawa and 13 in-person meetings and 10 teleconferences in three years; (4) CGD held 14 engagements during this project representing more than three times the projected number. CGD hosted an additional 19 related events attended by Global Affairs staff; and (5) Canada's support and engagement contributed to CGD's publishing of the fifteenth edition of the Commitment to Development Index (CDI) in September 2017. The report had a specific focus on migration. The official launch event of the CDI took place at the UN General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on September 19th.
