Project Description

This project aims to reduce the vulnerability of women men girls and boys to water and hygiene related diseases within internally displaced populations and host communities in Dohuk and Erbil governorates of Iraq. It also complements Canada’s existing humanitarian relief efforts for internally displaced persons in Iraq thereby leveraging Canada’s response to the crisis in Iraq for greater and longer-term impact. Project activities include: (1) drilling six boreholes in Erbil Governorate; (2) supplying and installing prefabricated water treatment units in Khanke Village in Dohuk Governorate; (3) rehabilitating and providing additional water and sanitation facilities in a hosting-community in Erbil; and (4) training government staff on water sanitation and hygiene (WASH) outbreak preparedness. With GAC’s support World Vision Canada is rehabilitating and improving water sanitation and hygiene services for over 52 000 host-community members and internally displaced persons in Dohuk and Erbil governorates.

Expected Results

The expected outcome for this project is: strengthened capacity within Dohuk and Erbil governorates at household community and government levels to ensure healthy water and sanitation environments and practices among women men girls and boys in internally displaced populations and host communities.
