Project Description
The project aims to train and deploy election observers to support the delivery of free and credible Tunisian legislative and presidential elections in 2014-2015. Activities include: (1) training of Tunisian civil society organizations on independent election monitoring techniques; (2) deployment of domestic observers during the elections which contributes to deter fraud and other election irregularities encourage participation and bolster citizen confidence in the broader political transition; and (3) enabling approximately 30 international observers to assess whether the elections meet international benchmarks and standards for democratic elections. This reflects Canada’s commitment to help strengthen democratic processes at regional and global levels.
Expected Results
The expected intermediate outcomes of this project include: (1) increased capacity of a select civil society network to apply innovative techniques in independent election monitoring; and (2) enhanced ability of Tunisian stakeholders to improve the process for free and credible elections in the future.
