Project Description

This project aims to improve protection of civilians through an assessment of the humanitarian system’s performance in providing protection for people affected by humanitarian crises. It seeks to identify measures to help ensure more effective and consistent protection across the humanitarian system. Recent reports and lessons learned exercises have shown that the systematic protection of civilians during crises continues to be a challenge for the international humanitarian community. Project activities include: (1) conducting research to explore the current challenges lessons learned and good practices of protection programming in humanitarian crises; and (2) developing recommendations for further action to enable better protection outcomes across the humanitarian system.

Expected Results

The expected outputs of this project include: (1) a final research report that highlights current challenges lessons learned and good practices with respect to protection programming in humanitarian crises; and (2) recommendations on which actions are needed to ensure more effective and consistent achievement of protection outcomes across the humanitarian system. The expected ultimate outcome is lives saved suffering alleviated and human dignity maintained in countries experiencing humanitarian crisis or acute food insecurity.
