Project Description
June 2 2014 - Heavy rainfall has caused massive floods and landslides in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The floods are said to be the worst in 120 years and have brought significant destruction. An estimated 1.5 million people have been affected. The Government of Bosnia and Herzegovina has requested international assistance in responding to this disaster. With GAC’s support through the Canadian Red Cross the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in partnership with the Red Cross Society of Bosnia and Herzegovina is helping people to provide assistance to 10 000 flood-affected families. Project activities include: (1) provision of general health awareness landmine awareness and psychosocial support; (2) provision of water sanitation and hygiene promotion; and (3) provision of livelihoods assistance.
Expected Results
The expected immediate outcomes for this project include: (1) increased access to safe drinking water; (2) increased access to services and assistance aimed at protecting the basic rights of crisis-affected groups; and (3) increased access to interventions designed to promote greater self-sufficiency. The expected intermediate outcome is reduced vulnerability of crisis-affected people especially women and children.
