Project Description
March 2014 –The International Committee of the Red Cross's (ICRC) primary mission is to help protect the lives and dignity of people affected by war and internal violence. The ICRC provides these affected people with assistance and prevents further suffering by promoting and strengthening international humanitarian law and universal humanitarian principles. With the support of DFATD and other donors the ICRC provides protection and assistance to people affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence in West Africa. Project activities include: (1) providing emergency food and essential household items; (2) protection in the event of new or increased conflict ; (3) providing basic shelter; (4) providing clean water sanitation and hygiene; (5) providing access to medical care; and (6) promoting international humanitarian law with national authorities and weapons-bearers.
Expected Results
The expected immediate outcomes for this project include: (1) increased access to emergency food and essential household items; (2) increased protection to conflict-affected persons; (3) increased access to shelter; (4) increased access to water sanitation facilities and hygiene; (5) increased access to health care services; and (6) Increased respect for international humanitarian law. The expected intermediate outcome is reduced vulnerability of crisis-affected people especially women and children.
