Project Description
March 2014 – The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial neutral and independent organization that draws its mandate from the 1949 Geneva Conventions and their Additional Protocols of 1977. The ICRC's primary mission is to help protect the lives and dignity of people affected by war and internal violence. The ICRC seeks to provide these affected people with assistance and prevent further suffering by promoting and strengthening international humanitarian law and universal humanitarian principles. With DFATD support ICRC's emergency operations aim to provide protection and assistance to populations affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence in Latin America. Project activities include: 1) Project activities include: 1) provision of safe water sanitation facilities and shelter; 2) provision of health care; 3) provision of livelihoods support and vocational training; and 4) promotion of respect for international humanitarian law.
Expected Results
The expected immediate outcomes for this project include: 1) Increased access to water sanitation facilities and adequate shelter; 2) Increased access to health care services; 3) Increased access to livelihoods support and vocational training ; and 4) Increased respect of international humanitarian law. The expected intermediate outcome is reduced vulnerability of crisis-affected people especially women and children.
