Project Description
The World Food Programme (WFP) is the United Nations’ frontline agency in the fight against hunger. It responds to emergencies saves lives by getting food to the hungry quickly and works to help prevent hunger in the future. With the support of DFATD and other donors WFP is meeting the immediate food needs of up to 1.6 million people affected by disasters internal displacement and food insecurity in Colombia and Haiti. Project activities include: (1) distributing food; (2) providing supplementary feeding to children under 5 years of age and pregnant and breastfeeding women; (3) providing food for work; (4) providing vouchers and cash transfers for food; and (5) supporting emergency school feeding programs.
Expected Results
The expected immediate outcomes for this project include: (1) increased access to food assistance for crisis-affected people; (2) increased access to nutritional food for vulnerable people including children aged 6 – 59 months and pregnant and breastfeeding women; and (3) increased prevention of further shocks to food-insecure communities. The expected intermediate outcome is reduced vulnerability of crisis-affected people especially women and children.
