Project Description
This project seeks to improve the quality of education for primary and secondary students in Tanzania. The Government of Tanzania has identified the improvement and expansion of the infrastructure of education institutions as an important step in improving the quality of teacher training and education. An improved physical learning environment for teachers helps to attract new recruits and ensures that teacher trainees are motivated and equipped to learn the skills they need to provide quality education to Tanzania’s primary and secondary school students. Project activities include: (1) constructing and rehabilitating teachers college classrooms; (2) constructing and rehabilitating for teachers college dormitories; (3) equipping teachers college laboratories; and (4) furnishing teachers college classrooms and dormitories. The project supports the repair and expansion of four teachers colleges in order to improve learning conditions for about 3 300 teacher trainees annually.
Expected Results
The expected outcome for this project is improved access to better quality education for men and women trainees at teachers colleges.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of December 2021 include: (1) constructed and rehabilitated nine lots at Kitangali Mpuguso Ndala and Shinyanga Teachers’ Colleges; and (2) equipped six new laboratories with chemistry apparatus and reagents biology apparatus and reagents and physics apparatus.
