Project Description
The project aims to support agricultural development in Mali mainly by purchasing grain which the World Food Program (WFP) distributes according to the “food for work / food for training” approach in the context of rural development projects.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of March 2012 include: 3 726 tons of millet and sorghum and 1 755 tons of rice were purchased and distributed to support rural development activities. 164 878 beneficiaries including 82 863 women (50%) received a daily individual ration of food. 26 380 beneficiaries including 13 321 women (51%) received a daily family ration of food as part of Food for Work activities. This well-fed workforce was able to build or restore productive infrastructure and Food for Work activities have contributed to the development or rehabilitation of 2 420 hectares of irrigated land 177 water storage reservoirs 82 km of stone barriers and 20 km of rural roads. 11 447 beneficiaries including 5 410 women (47%) received a daily family ration in exchange for 55 training sessions to improve their technical and management capacities.
