Project Description
This program aims to strengthen the institutional and organizational capacity of 43 umbrella organizations and of the main platform for civil society organizations (CSOs) in eight regions of Mali and in the Bamako district. These organizations are active in several sectors of socio-professional activities such as health disability gender human rights housing water sanitation rural associations agriculture democracy good governance environment etc. The project is designed to prepare CSOs to play an effective role as major development actors as envisaged in the second phase of the Civil Society Organizations Support Program (PAOSC II) which seeks to improve programs and policies of government and technical and financial partners to better meet the demands of the population and particularly the most vulnerable groups.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of March 2012 include: the governance and operational capabilities of the umbrella beneficiaries have been improved in terms of strategic planning updating the statutes and internal regulations updating or drafting administrative financial and accounting procedures and staffing equipment. The increased efficiency of recipient organizations helped to increase the quality of reports produced to improve communication with members and to strengthen the influence of these organizations on policy and development programs of the Government Mali. Civil society organizations have jointly contributed to the development of the new Strategic Framework for Growth and Poverty Reduction and have positioned themselves on the issue of constitutional reform.
