Project Description
As a result of the January 12 2010 earthquake most government buildings in Port-au-Prince collapsed or were severely damaged. The Haitian government requested Canada's assistance to establish temporary facilities for key ministries and Haitian public servants. The purpose of this project is to establish temporary operational centres for Haitian government ministries enabling them to more effectively manage and coordinate their response to the earthquake. The temporary administrative base accommodates up to 300 Haitian government employees. It consists of offices equipped with desks computers and office supplies; information technology and communications equipment; electricity water and cooling systems; and sanitation equipment and facilities. It accommodates the Ministry of Public Health and Population the Ministry of Agriculture the Ministry of Planning and External Cooperation and the Interim Haiti Recovery Commission.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved by the project which ended in March 2012 include: Four temporary office installations were transported assembled and equipped for the Ministry of Health the Ministry of Agriculture the Ministry of Planning and External Cooperation and the Interim Haiti Recovery Commission / Performance and Anti-Corruption Office. These facilities provided working space for 300 personnel. Personnel from each Ministry totalling 21 staff was trained in the operations and maintenance of the buildings the office equipment and the mechanical systems. In order to reduce operational costs the installations were connected to the national electrical system. These results contributed to reconstruction efforts following the earthquake by helping to reestablish government operations.
