Project Description
The project aims to increase food security or access to safe nutritious and sufficient food for the most vulnerable populations in line with the Emergency Social Program of the Government of Senegal. The project also seeks to improve the capacity of decision-makers to anticipate potential food security crises. This project strengthens the capacity of the Senegalese food security monitoring mechanisms to collect analyse and disseminate reliable and timely information to national decision-makers and development partners. This enables better monitoring of the food security and nutritional situation all over the country.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of the end of the project include: Periodic surveys on the food situation in Senegal's different areas led to the publication of a monthly newsletter outlining the country's food security including agrifood and zoo-sanitary aspects as well as pastoral aspects. These surveys also enabled the implementation of sentinel sites in the country as well as data collection and electronically data transmission. Project results contributed to the operationalization of the early warning system to anticipate food and nutrition crises in order to provide the appropriate answers to specific problems in time.
