Project Description

The goal of the project is to deploy short-and long-term specialist advisory resources provide targeted technical assistance and mainstream gender equality in four areas/sectors in Tanzania. DFATD collaborates with the Government of Tanzania civil society and other donors to identify manage and effectively implement technical assistance to improve aid effectiveness across all DFATD programming areas. Types of technical needs that can be supported include: gender-sensitive strategic planning; evidence-based policy research and development; policy dialogue; monitoring and evaluation; public expenditure tracking; public consultations; targeted/special audits; strengthened procurement and audit systems; gender budgeting; strengthened intergovernmental linkages; budget consultations; donor coordination; research and analysis; communications; and the provision of resources for studies workshops and training for the Government of Tanzania or civil society partners engaged in DFATD programming areas.

Progress & Results Achieved

Results achieved as of 2016 include: 1) increased harmony and coordination of donor activities and interactions with the Government of Tanzania through the provision of program advisors and technical assistance which supported activities of the Public Financial Management and Health Sectors external evaluations and audits; 2) increased understanding by key Tanzanian partners of development and aid effectiveness as well as strengthened Tanzanian results-based systems achieved by supporting knowledge-building events in Tanzania and educational opportunities for key Tanzanian partners; 3) strengthened Tanzanian results based-systems procedures and institutional capacity in the health sector by providing funding for the 2015 Tanzania Demographic Health Survey and increasing accessibility to updated and reliable data in the Health sector; and 4) increased the accountability of the government of Tanzania to its citizens by supporting the participation of youth and women in a country-led constitutional review process. These investments are helping GAC increase the alignment of its aid portfolio with Tanzanian country priorities and increasing the understanding of the Government of Tanzania of development and aid effectiveness particularly in GAC programming areas.
